This week we are going to the Poetry Foundation on a field trip. It’s a place I have always heard about, but never visited. I am looking forward to experiencing it for the first time through the student’s eyes.
In both Language Arts and Writing we will stick with the theme of poetry. We will use our time in Language Arts to begin reading poems aloud and analyzing the way in which the writer uses an array of literary devices to answer different questions: How does communication change us? How does poetry contribute to our understanding of self, others, and the world? How does the use of voice empower an individual? Finally, we will move back to Wordly Wise Lesson 9 and take a look at some new vocabulary.
In Writing, we will work on a unique form of poetry called Blackout.
In Social Studies, we are continuing our study of the Progressive Era which addressed many of the problems and issues resulting from the Industrial Revolution. We will explore Progressive Presidents, laws/acts/and court decisions, landmarks, reformers, and significant events.
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend.
