Academics
Advisory/SEL - We will continue our Rainbow Revolutionaries reading/research this month. StoryCorps has some outstanding interviews @https://storycorps.org/black-history-month/ that we'll be exploring this month.
ELA - We will continue reading our memoir - Night by Elie Wiesel. We continue looking at the following essential questions as we read and analyze the text: How do you keep hope alive when your rights are taken from you? What does it mean to be a minority and how does this impact our identity? How would living through a war change your childhood? Students are defining new vocabulary and completing discussion questions as we read as well as exploring a variety of texts and media related to the history of the Holocaust and Elie Wiesel.
Writing - We have started our poetry unit and students will be writing in 6 different styles (odes, ekphrasis, non-sense poetry, sonnets, sestinas, and free choice). Students shared their "Ekphrasis" poems inspired by artwork. We will also explore Non-Sense Poetry with Errata by Kevin Young and sonnets (English and Italian) at the end of the week.
Civics - We will be finishing up Unit 2 in Civics exploring the Influence of the Courts and begin Unit 3 which looks at the common good and unintended consequences.
