- We ended week 9 with a fun and festive Halloween party in our classroom. Our students had a wonderful time playing digital escape rooms, watching “The Corpse Bride”, and enjoying a delicious variety of snacks and beverages provided by the generous and thoughtful families of our students. Thanks for making the party a huge success.

Academics
ELA - This week we read, annotated, and analyzed Roald Dahl’s fabulous suspense story “Lamb to the Slaughter.” We then watched an Alfred Hitchcock adaptation of the story and discussed the differences we noticed between the two versions. We also spent time this week on reading comprehension assignments as we prepare to take the high school application exam on November 9. We will continue with test preparation activities next week.
Writing - Students started a new writing unit focused on writing high school entrance essays. In this unit, students will write a one-page essay that demonstrates how their special qualities make them a great fit for their high school of choice.
Civics - Students continue to work their way through Civics Launch 1. Students worked in groups to explore the First Amendment, and they researched why the rights guaranteed by it are so important. Students also considered ways in which they can use those rights to further the common good. We finished our first quarter Current Events presentations on Friday.
