The Best In Us
By: Angelina Girardin
I lost going to my Great-Grandma’s lake house when I would go fishing with cousins and get splashed in the face with water from squirmy fish.
I lost sleepovers during summer, my friends and I would stay up all night watching movies with sugar coursing through our brains.
I lost having Thanksgiving dinner with family friends where we would all bring a different dish and then sit down to the delicious smell of turkey with gravy on top and mashed potatoes with cranberries on the side.
And I lost softball. When my teammates and I would have double headers and then a pizza party afterwards with dirt and grass stains all over our uniforms .
Even though it was hard to get used to, I found some things throughout the summer.
I found an inflatable pool that kept my family cool on hot days when the sun shone so bright you couldn’t go outside without sunglasses.
I found baking, which in the process my hands became very sticky from cake batter or chocolate chips.
I found geometric art. It isn’t too hard but it gives your eyes so much to look at, whether it is with colors or not.
I found dancing in my room with the music blasting as loud as my phone will go.
And I found writing songs, as my heart and soul just pours out on paper with chords attached.
These challenges that everyone is facing is giving people a chance to learn things about themselves that they didn’t know before.
Times like these bring out the best in us.
