A Short Lived Rival
By Julia Lerner
I can neither ask the questions, nor pry,
For that would be so woefully unwise.
Yet, I see it all with a watchful eye.
Why is it that they circle you like flies?
I have heard about much of what you did,
None of which would be in great taste to name.
In due time I will forgive, and be rid
Of the burden of this knowledge, a shame.
But peculiarly, you shan’t be blamed
For it was not you, but instead the fear.
For it was not you who commanded and framed
Your limbs as you stole it, though still near
You had only one reason, survival
Only to outlive a short lived rival
