Academics
Advisory/SEL - Students are starting to look at Women Breaking Barriers for our next advisory unit. We will be exploring Relationships and our Values with 2nd Step this month and continuing to work toward our extra Friday recess.
ELA - We be finishing up our Young Adult Book Clubs this week for Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson, Speak by Laurie Anderson Halse, The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. Students continue to lead strong discussions and are doing a great job at facilitating conversations about these texts. We will be preparing for our final essay exam on these novels as well as selecting a choice final project. Students will be looking to answer our essential questions: How does our identity impact our choices and how people view us? What does justice look like for those who have harmed us? Who deserves our mercy?
Writing - We completing our News Literacy and Journalism Writing Units. Students are working in online modules in Checkology through the News Literacy Project. Students will finalize drafting and revising their news articles that may be presented in the Coonley Chronicle. Gum Unit 3 Lessons 29-33 and extra practice this week. See assignment page for details.
Civics - Students are working on their final civics action project to address a problem that they feel strongly about. Students will have the choice to create a Public Service Announcement or a Poster to bring awareness to their issue. Additionally students may submit a proposal and meet with Principal Humphrey about potential funding for their projects.
