Permission Slips due on Monday for Enrichment Field Trips (Art/Music) and Sulzer Library Model UN. Guys & Dolls is an amazing show that I hope you will take the time to see. The students, musical team, and the many parent volunteers have spent countless hours creating a great night of theater. Look for ticket information this week.
ELA
This week, students continue their Young Adult Book Club novel exploration. Students are working in small groups to read, analyze and discuss their texts. Students continue to explore the questions: How does our identity impact our choices and how people view us? What does justice/forgiveness look like for those who have harmed us? For Understanding the Invisible Art of Comics additional focus on: Why does POV matter and how is this present in graphic novels through text and images?
Writing
Students will continue to complete their individualized Quill Grammar Activities as well as the NewsLiteracy Projects Checkology modules which focus on the rights and responsibilities of the press as a watchdog for democracy. They will test their abilities to question the media they consume and learn tips/tricks to use and consume it responsibly. Students are drafting news articles on a topic of their choice using a funnel model due 5/10/23.
Social Science
We are continuing Unit 2: Dividing a Nation: Segregation and its Consequences in Facing History's Choices in Little Rock Curriculum. Students will engage with a range of texts/images focused on the Little Rock Nine students and their experiences. 8th Grade students met on Friday morning to craft their country introductions for our Model UN Field Trip. The trip will involve negotiation, problem-solving, research and writing. We will spend the day at Sulzer Library in our Model UN Simulation and students had an opportunity to order Potbelly for lunch during our lunch break.
