ELA
We will continue our study of Elie Wiesel's "Night". Students have been enjoying reading, reflecting and listening to an audiobook of this incredibly moving memoir. Elie's narrative of his 15 year old self in Auschwitz is painful but bears witness to how easily community members can be oppressed, denied justice, and face the horrors of what humankind is capable of. Students have been looking deeply at this nonfiction narrative memoir and facing the realities of how easily dignity and humanity can be murdered. Next week, we will focus on Wordly Wise Lesson 11 and continue our reading.
Writing
Over the next month, we will be exploring poetry in a variety of formats. Next week, we will write ugly poems.
Civics
We are finishing up our Civics Curriculum next week. Students will work on an inquiry project focused on community organizations and how they address the common good. Students will also complete Part 1 of their Final Assessment for the course.
