Homeroom/Advisory - We will continue the 7 Mindsets: Unit 5.2 Be More Grateful . We are continuing to read Chapter 11 of Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson as our Equity Read Aloud on Wednesdays. Thursdays - students will have time for Free Reading. On Friday, we will check Google Classroom Submissions to ensure all assignments were submitted, checked Aspen Gradebook for any missing word/assignments or opportunities for retakes, cleaned out binders, desks and lockers as needed.
ELA - This coming week, 8th grade will finish exploring suspense/thriller stories looking to answer the following questions: What are some common characteristics of thriller/suspense stories? How is suspense used by writers to create mood and reader engagement? How does the successful use of our suspense in literature impact the reader? How are suspense and tension used in literature? We will begin our Science Fiction Choice Novel next week.
Writing - Students will finish Quarter 1 Grammar Practice using Quill focused on their personalized needs based on a diagnostic quiz. They will complete applying suspense/thriller techniques into a narrative story. This week, we will kick off our High School Application Essays. Students will learn techniques to write a strong essay to represent their skills, talents and strengths whether for an application essay, cover letter, or entrance essay.
Civics/Social Science - Students will continue adding additional sources to their Annotated Bibliography of sources for their History Fair topic using a template to guide their citations. We have kicked off Launch 2 with a focus on Government Institutions and their Role in our lives. This week students will look for solutions to unemployment, voter suppression, and legislative dilemmas as well as explore federalism.
