IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness) Testing will finish up this week with ELA on Tuesday and Thursday. Graduation Picture Day is Wednesday @ 8:30 AM. Please remind your students to arrive on time. A field trip permission slip will be coming home this week for 4/6/22 trip to the Illinois Holocaust Museum. The cost is $17.00 and a link will be posted on e-pay. Students will need a bag lunch for this trip as we will be eating a little later when we return in the afternoon. Please let us know if your student needs a school lunch so we can plan ahead.

Academics
Advisory/SEL - We will continue our Rainbow Revolutionaries reading/research this month as well as 2nd Step lessons topic is Speaking Up and Starting a Movement.
ELA - Students will be presenting their poetry analysis looking at The Mending Wall, The Hand, The Parakeets, The Fish, and The Song of the Wandering Aengus. Students will share their analysis of speaker & audience, content & form, tone & rhetorical triangle (logos, ethos, pathos). We will begin our Young Adult Book Clubs this week for Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson, Speak by Laurie Anderson Halse, The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. A reading calendar will be posted in assignments at the end of this week.
Writing - We are finishing up our poetry collections due on Thursday, March 24, 2022. We will review for our Gum Unit 2 Exam on Friday. Our next unit will be focused on News Literacy and Journalism. Students will be working in online modules in Checkology through the News Literacy Project. It will be important for students to bring headphones or ear buds to use with this program as it is self-paced and includes excellent audio and media integration.
Civics - We are working on Unit 3 in Civics which looks at the common good and unintended consequences. This week we are looking at community movements focused on change as well as the power of schools. We will be finishing up Civics by the end of March and moving into our Social Studies curriculum for the remainder of the year.
