ELA
We are finishing up our study of Night with a virtual field trip to the Illinois Holocaust Museum on April 10, 2023. While we are disappointed not to be able to attend in-person, we know students will connect to the highlights presented in this guided tour with opportunities for discussion. Mr. Chang and I will be joining our classes to view the field trip presentation and look forward to connecting students across their work. We will also be finishing up the unit by making connections to the film, Life Is Beautiful. Students will make connections between the film clips and texts we have read in Unit 3: The Challenge to Make A Difference.
Writing
Students will continue to complete their individualized Quill Grammar Activities as well as the NewsLiteracy Projects Checkology modules which focus on the rights and responsibilities of the press as a watchdog for democracy. They will test their abilities to question the media they consume and learn tips/tricks to use and consume it responsibly.
Social Science
We are finishing up Unit 1: Individual and Society and move into Unit 2: Dividing a Nation: Segregation and its Consequences in Facing History's Choice in Little Rock Curriculum. Students have engaged with a range of short stories that look closely at identity and its impacts on individuals and society. As we move forward, students will look closely at the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments and the impacts they have had on our nation.
I hope you are enjoying a relaxing Spring Break and look forward to seeing you on April 10th. Things will be moving quickly after we return with many great activities, field trips and units of study. Hard to believe we are in the 4th quarter looking to the end of the year.
