Thank you for all the lovely notes and Room 316 for the Gethsemane Gift Certificate. I enjoy gardening so it was such a thoughtful gift. Teacher Appreciation Week was fun. We had a great time with Spirit Days and I think I nailed my student look on Friday. I almost got stopped in the hallway for not being in class (I am joking of course. Wishful thinking). We celebrated and wish Mr. Lee the best as he moves to LA. We will miss him.
We will have the last of our Star 360 Reading & Math testing this week to mark our End of Year progress.
ELA - We are beginning the play, Raisin in the Sun by Chicagoan Lorraine Hansberry. 8th Grade began our year by modeling her memoir and now we will be reading her Pulitzer Prize Winning Play. Students created beautiful YA Choice Novel Final Projects. I look forward to sharing some photos on Twitter.
Writing - This week we reviewed the elements of fan fiction as a possible source of inspiration for Young Authors. Students may write in a genre of their choice, of course. I'm excited to begin working in genre writing groups next week to develop some great short writing pieces. We will finish up Gum Unit 3 this coming week.
Civics/Social Science - We have started the Burge Reparations Won Curriculum and reflected on our views of law enforcement and how that shapes this unit as well as the role of police. Next week, we will continue looking at Miranda Rights and the stories of Burge Victims.
