ELA - Students continue to enjoy reading and performing Twelfth Night in class. We have almost reached our goal of having every student read aloud from the text, and we are delighted with the students’ performances. They are up to the challenge of reading Shakespeare’s difficult text and are mostly having fun doing so. We spent time on story structure this week, and will continue to explore key literary elements and character types next week. Students completed Wordly Wise Lesson 3 today with an in-class assessment.
Writing - Students put the finishing touches on their wonderful memoir poems which were due on Tuesday. We spent time later in the week close-reading and annotating excerpts from Lorraine Hansberry’s memoir “Young, Gifted, and Black.” Students have really connected with Ms. Hansberry’s remembrances of her childhood in Chicago, and have engaged each other with thoughtful discussions as they analyze the piece. Next week they will begin to craft a piece of their own that has them explore their own memories in a similar fashion.
Civics - Students have started Civics Launch 1 in which they explore their rights, responsibilities, and power in our democracy and community. Our second Friday News Day presentations were enjoyable as the first, with students educating us on issues that matter to them, including sports, animal trafficking, and Covid-19 vaccines and impact on students.
Wishing you a terrific weekend. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at [email protected].
