9/22/22 - Q1 Progress Reports
9/23/22 - School Improvement Day - No School for Students
Reminders:
- The Graduation Fee of $130.00 may be paid at your convenience at the Coonley E-pay site.
- Ms. Wheatman, our counselor, will begin individual meetings with students to discuss the High School Application process during advisory.
ELA - This coming week, we categorized the use of humorous elements and style as a precursor to writing our Final Essay Analysis of Humor. Students will create strong thesis statements to drive their essays and look at techniques to analyze and support their arguments as well as creating engaging introductions and conclusions. Students have access to Springboard online which allows them an e-book version to use in class and at home. Students can now access Accelerated Reader where they can take comprehension quizzes for free reading books at school and at home.
Civics/Social Science - Students continued Launch 1 this week looking at Rights and Responsibilities. Students created their own model middle schools and made connects to how their process was similar/different to the creation of the Constitution. Students created a visual to illustrate our rights under the Constitution including limited government, individual rights, republicanism, separation of powers, federalism, popular sovereignty, checks and balances. Next week, we'll dig deeper looking at the Bill of Rights and Voting Rights as well as the First Amendment. We also explored memorials for 911 and Queen Elizabeth II, with a focus on remembering their impacts on the World.
Upcoming Events: We are in the process of planning a virtual field trip with 1st Amendment Museum on 9/28/22. We are also planning dates for a walking field trip to Sulzer Library to explore their extensive collection in preparation for History Fair research on this year's theme: Frontiers in History: People, Places and Ideas. We'll need chaperones to visit Sulzer. Hope you'll consider joining us.
