Academics
ELA - Students spent more time this week reading and acting out Twelfth Night in class. In addition to reading, we continued to explore how Shakespeare effectively employs character types and literary devices to add meaning and nuance to his plays. Many students have started working on their Twelfth Night final projects which combine artistic and written elements; these projects will allow students to show off their understanding of the play using mixed media.
Writing - Students have begun crafting their third and final assignment for our Memoir unit. Students are writing an eight-part structured memoir that explores family relationships, childhood games, special talents, and more. Students will continue to work on this assignment next week. Students finished GUM Unit 7 this week, taking the unit exam on Friday.
Civics - Students are progressing through Civics Launch 1. This week they explored constitutional principles and the Bill of Rights. Our third Friday News Day presentations continue to educate, challenge, and entertain us with intriguing topics including the recent oil spill in California, the impact of COVID on Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebrations, and how shipping delays are affecting the supply chain.
Wishing you and your students a great long weekend. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at [email protected].
