Academics
ELA - We’ve begun to wrap up our Twelfth Night unit. Students finished reading and acting out the play in class. They impressed us with their willingness to tackle 17th century English words and phrases, and we’ll miss the enthusiasm they brought to interpreting the character roles. Students also finished their plot maps, literary device analysis and character type graphic organizer. Next week, they will finish their Twelfth Night final projects and take a final exam on the play prior to starting our next unit that explores Thriller and Suspense. Students will also work on Wordly Wise Lesson 4 next week.
Writing - Students continued to work on their Lorraine Hansberry-inspired memoirs which they’ll finish by the middle of next week. Once those are complete, we will start our next writing unit that focuses on writing high school entrance essays. In this unit, students will learn strategies for writing about the special qualities they possess that set them apart.
Civics - Students continue to work their way through Civics Launch 1. We have learned how voting rights have expanded overall to be more inclusive since the founding of our country. We’ve also studied the 14th amendment, and deepened our understanding of the concepts of due process and equal protection under the law. We also learned a lot about the damage caused by oil spills, the recent withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, crime in Chicago, the spike in oil prices, and the delta variant of COVID during our Friday current events presentations.
Enjoy the weekend. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at [email protected].
