Language Arts - We are exploring the genre of horror with several short stories and narrative poems this month (The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving). At the end of this week, we will begin our new novel unit which is focused on science fiction/dystopian literature. Students have selected between Enders Game by Orson Scott Card and Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi. They are both excellent stories that focus on unlikely heroes. This week, we are back to Wordly Wise Lesson 3.
Writing - Students are working on writing interesting introductions and conclusions for their Science Fair Review of Literature.
Social Studies - Students will complete an artifact analysis, selecting one immigration artifact from a Library of Congress collection to explore in detail. What does the artifact explain about immigration? Why are artifacts an important source of history?
